PRESCHOOL
Providing a nurturing,
developmentally appropriate program for its children, our preschool program is located in a space designed specifically
to meet the needs of young children. It also
has the advantage of using the many resources that The Philadelphia
School has to offer.
The preschool's experienced, professional staff
guides children through a rich and creative educational program
of hands-on activities that promote learning. Activities include
free play, circle, art, music, physical education, Spanish,
and yoga.
Many of our learning activities revolve around
themes. For instance, during the recent "Tropical Cruise" theme,
the preschoolers sailed to Jamaica, Puerto Rico,
Trinidad, and Hawaii. The students learned about boats and
ocean liners; sinking and floating; ocean life, islands, and
coral reefs; and island cultures and folklore. Throughout
the journey, they read lots of literature, both fiction and
nonfiction; created maps, a cruise ship, volcanoes, and surfboards;
and tasted various tropical foods. They culminated their adventure
with a "Calypso Carnivale," complete with beaches, music,
tropical foods, and costumes.
The preschool uses The Philadelphia School's
full-sized gymnasium, the school yard, and the playground
at nearby Schuylkill River Park.
Children applying for entrance in September 2009 must be four-years-old by August 31, 2009. Children may be enrolled on a half-day
or full-day basis.

"I asked the school to imbue my children
with the joy of learning, the strength of community, the treasure
of independence, and an enthusiasm for meaningful endeavor,
it did all that and more."
-Caroline Simon, founding parent
