PreschoolPreschool at The Philadelphia School is a vibrant, engaging and fun place for four-year-olds. Our early childhood program provides an environment that nurtures each child’s physical, social and emotional, and cognitive development. Our approach to teaching and learning is built on the belief that four-year-olds learn best through play and by “doing.” When children are at play, they are learning and making meaning, exploring the world around them on their own terms, solving problems, making choices, expressing their feelings and thoughts, discovering their creative abilities, and developing language and social skills. The process of discovery and expression is often messy, exuberant, and joyful for preschoolers. Physical movement, drawing, painting, spoken or written words, rhythms, symbolic play, and scientific and mathematical ideas are all means by which children create, express, and make meaning about the world around them. Four-year-olds are dynamos whose brains and bodies are in constant motion! They are explorers and adventurers, scientists and superheroes, and actors and artists who soak up experiences and engage with the environment around them. In response to this, our preschool rooms are flexible and creative spaces. There are quiet places, busy places, social places, and private spots. The rooms are filled with a variety of stimulating materials––blocks, rocks, books, turtles, plants, dress-up clothes, and math materials. Preschoolers at The Philadelphia School are guided by an extraordinary team of seasoned early childhood educators. |
