ArtKindergarten students visit the art studio twice a week. They are introduced to a variety of diverse materials in an atmosphere of playfulness and fun. Through guided discovery, the children are taught to value the different media and art tools, as well as the proper techniques for their use. The children are then ready to investigate the materials and tools, on their own, with thoughtful experimentation. They are also ready for explorations relating to texture, movement, color, sculpting and building, painting and representational drawing. Repeating encounters with a particular art medium emphasizes the creative process. Most projects begin with drawing to help young artists develop fundamental skills. We introduce kindergarteners to basic elements of design and to mediums that they will return to throughout their years at The Philadelphia School. Our goal is for children to make art with confidence and to enjoy being both creators and observers. |
