Beyond TPS
TPS graduates are confident, self assured, and well prepared to excel in a variety of environments. Graduates have gone on to attend many of the highly regarded public and private schools in the area, and TPS has a strong reputation among these schools as an excellent source of talented, well-adjusted ninth graders.
We have two seasoned educators who serve as guidance counselors and work closely with families in their children's eighth grade year to determine best school fit for each graduating student. These counselors have strong relationships with the admission departments at all of the schools to which our students apply (Abington Friends School, Baldwin School, CAPA, Central HIgh School, Chestnut Hill Academy, Crefeld School, Episcopal Academy, Friends' Central School, Friends Select School, Germantown Academy, Germantown Friends School, Palumbo Academy, The Shipley School, Springside School, St. Joseph's Prep, Science Leadership Academy, William Penn Charter School, etc.) and assist all graduating families in navigating the admission process.
Our graduates have different needs, learning styles, and interests. We help each student find the school that is best for their needs.
Early in the school year, The Philadelphia School hosts a High School Night, when admission directors from a variety of private and public schools present their programs to our eighth graders and their parents. Daytime presentations are also arranged for admission representatives. Throughout the year, students and parents and students to receive guidance on their high school options and the application process from our high school counselors, our Associate Head for Middle School, and Middle School advisors.
Admission directors consider our students assets to their high school programs. Our graduating students are valued as flexible thinkers, skillful writers, independent learners, talented athletes and artists, and collaborative team members.
