Welcome

Thank you for your interest in The Philadelphia School!  TPS is a vibrant, progressive learning community.  We believe that education should be embedded in authentic, real-world experiences.  It is our goal to create an environment where students learn respect for the individual, respect for the community, and respect for democratic ideals.

Active, experiential learning is at the heart of what we do.  Our City Country Classroom program combines resources from Philadelphia’s cultural institutions and the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education, a 340-acre natural area featuring a variety of habitats and 4 miles of hiking trails, to enhance the classroom experience.  Children learn best when challenged to formulate the questions that support their learning.  Teachers are facilitators who guide students of all ages through the processes of managing their time, making choices, gathering and organizing data, working collaboratively, and solving problems.  We hope you will explore our website, which provides a great deal of information about our educational program, the application process, and financial aid.

Feel free to call with any questions: 215-545-5323.  For the 2010-2011 school year, the admission deadline  for Preschool, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade is December 1, 2010.  We are still accepting applications for grades 2-7 for the upcoming school year, 2010-2011. Applications will continue to be considered as long as space is available.
