Today at Shelly Ridge we hiked to a meadow pretty far from where we usually play. In partners, the children used a map to follow a trail through the woods to several checkpoints. Those who were finished, or waiting their turn, spent the time exploring in this new area of Shelly Ridge. The weather was gorgeous, and much fun was had by all! PLEASE DO A THOROUGH TICK CHECK! It is tick season, and we were in tall grass.
On Tuesday we had a big day! In the morning we had Student Council elections for officers for next year. We all went to the gym to listen to the campaign speeches of the sixth and seventh graders who were running. Voting was done electronically later in the day. For theme we had another visitor. Fergus Carey, owner of Fergie’s Pub and several other restaurants and friend of Declan’s family, came to speak about his experience as a modern-day immigrant from Ireland. We hope you heard about this interesting visit! And thank you to Lisa Metzger for helping to arrange it. Finally, in the afternoon we were treated to a performance of the Drama Club’s play, “The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood.” Everyone enjoyed the show, and Carrie (the director) was very touched that ten JU-B students came back to see the play again the following evening!
Speaking of plays, did anyone record any of our play on a mini DVD camera? Paula Martino has about 45 minutes of it and is hoping to be able to create a more complete version of it. Please contact us, or her if you have footage that could help.
Next Wednesday, June 4, we will have a special pizza lunch in JU-B, so you do not need to pack a lunch for your child that day (unless s/he dislikes pizza!) Several parents have generously arranged for this celebration. They will provide drinks and dessert as well.
Since next week is the last week of school, we would like everyone to bring in an empty shopping bag labeled with his or her name. We will be sending home all belongings on Wednesday, and an extra bag will likely be needed.
It has just come to our attention that there is a new exhibit at The Franklin Institute that is all about machines. Since your children have built many simple machines over the course of this year, we feel this would be a wonderful exhibit for them to see. If you are looking for an activity – especially on a rainy or very hot day! – “Amazing Machine” would be a great excursion.
