Capital Giving

From time to time, following extensive strategic and organizational planning, The Philadelphia School initiates a capital campaign, a time-limited effort to raise significant dollars for a specific project.

Past capital campaigns enabled TPS to move from rented classrooms at Rodeph Shalom Synagogue on Broad Street to our current Lombard Street site in 1976, to purchase the site in 1989, to build our gymnasium in 2000, and to establish an Endowment Fund in 2005.  We are deeply grateful to the support so many individuals and families have given the school over the years to enable us to reach our goals, serve more children and families, and deliver an outstanding educational program.

Most recently, TPS purchased a property at 25th and South Streets formerly owned by the City of Philadelphia which served as a depot for it's Department of Licenses and Inspections.  Development of this property will enable TPS to meet many of the goals outlined in its most recent strategic plan adopted in 2008 and will ensure the school's long-term programmatic and financial health.  Improvements to the property will beautify and enhance our corner of the city, will meet the educational needs of more Philadelphia families and children, and will enable us to enhance our curriculum in dynamic and innovative ways.  We are excited at this opportunity for growth.

Like all independent schools, our yearly operating budget does not take into account our need for facilities growth.   These needs must be met by committed individuals, families, and foundations who can afford to make capital gifts in addition to their regular annual support of the school.   Capital gift payments may be made over the period of one or several years.

In the coming months, we will be announcing exciting plans for our newest capital campaign - Every Inch A Classroom.  For questions about our capital campaign or other projects in need of funding, contact Dana Marcus, Director of Institutional Advancement, at 215-545-5323, extension 227 or dmarcus@tpschool.org.
