SHELLY RIDGE
The 125-acres of Shelly Ridge include woodlands,
open meadows, streams, valleys, and ridges, as well as a barn,
a multi-purpose center, a resource center, and trails and shelters
in the woods. Shelly Ridge provides the hands-on experience
to which we relate our science program, extending classroom
studies in environmental, life, physical, and earth and space
sciences. A day at Shelly Ridge, however, is more than a science
class. It is a time for exploration, observation, discovery,
and reflection. Children learn to appreciate and value nature
and become aware of environmental issues. National recognition
of The Philadelphia School's environmental education curricula
includes the President's Environmental Youth Award and the National
Teachers of Science Association Award for Excellence in Science
Education.

"Shelly Ridge enabled me to see science
as a relevant and integral part of the world around me, not
just a series of classroom experiments from a textbook."
