Head of School Search
At the end of the 2011-2012 school year, Amy Vorenberg informed The Philadelphia School community that she would conclude her tenure as Head of School in June 2013. Amy will leave the school in an amazing position for growth into the future, and she graciously provided ample time for the school to conduct a thorough and reflective search for her successor.
The Board of Trustees of The Philadelphia School announced on October 31, 2012, that Justine Hoffman has been appointed Head of School effective July 1, 2013.
Justine, who was selected following an extensive national search, is presently the Head of Middle School at The Hewitt School in New York City, a position she has held since 2003. She began her teaching career at The Abraham Lincoln School, a public school in Chicago, teaching grades 4 through 8 and serving as the Director of the Humanities Program. After leaving Chicago and prior to joining Hewitt, Justine worked at the Kew-Forest School in Forest Hills, New York, initially as a classroom teacher and then as Head of the Middle School.
“Justine brings a strong commitment to a progressive educational philosophy and has significant experience as an educational leader,” said Gina Moore, president of the Board of Trustees of The Philadelphia School. “She exhibits innovation, collaboration, and diversity in a way that directly fits with the TPS community and will enhance and support the excellent work of our faculty.”
Justine holds two master’s degrees in education, one in curriculum development and the other in educational leadership. She has done work at Columbia University’s Klingenstein Center for Independent School Leadership, supporting the Fellows Program and Columbia’s Teachers College University fellows.
"In The Philadelphia School I have found a school that I am excited to call home,” said Justine. “Through my many conversations, meetings, and classroom visits, I gained a deep appreciation and admiration of the thoughtful engagement of the entire TPS community."
We look forward to having Justine join the TPS community on July 1.
