Diversity & Equity Committee

A number of faculty and staff voluntarily join the faculty-led Diversity and Equity Committee each year.  This group meets regularly to discuss issues of diversity and inclusion.  Their conversations and small group work have focused on different areas, including school culture and climate, multicultural curriculum, cross-cultural dialogue, and affective education for all.  The group serves as a resource for teachers wishing to explore different areas of the curriculum in ways that support a more multicultural stance.

The DEC Committee works in collaboration with the Curriculum Study Group of the faculty and staff to articulate the scope and sequence of skills in our affective education curriculum.  The goal of this work is to outline a baseline of skills that all students will cover during the course of their time as students at TPS, from age four to age fourteen.

In addition to the DEC Committee, the school has a Diversity Coordinator Team, comprised of six faculty and staff members who have particular expertise and interest in diversity issues. The team meets regularly with the Head of School.  The six offer leadership in various ways, including the co-chairs of the Diversity and Equity Committee, a co-chair of the Professional Development and Evaluation Committee, and three liaisons to the student and parent community for improved communication and sharing of ideas and concerns.  The team works collaboratively to address diversity issues, to provide expertise in marshaling resources for professional development and curricular work, and to connect more broadly in the city and beyond in support of diversity work.  Additionally, this group offers support and guidance to parents or students with concerns and questions relating to diversity.
