2016-17 Biographies of Proposed New Additions to the Board
Christine Chisholm is a parent of two children at TPS and also a long-time educator in the Philadelphia area. Christine has worked in a variety of high schools and is currently a teaching coach in Philadelphia high schools. Her areas of focus are on student engagement, constructivist learning and equity in the classroom. She has co-facilitated the Family Diversity Committee and sat on the Board Diversity Committee for the past three years. Christine and her husband, Fergie, are also passionate advocates for the city of Philadelphia.
Derek Jokelson has children in the sixth and eighth grades. He has served on the Board since 2010 and is currently the Senior Vice President. Derek is the Managing Attorney at Jokelson Law Group, P.C., and specializes in complex civil litigation.
Maia Cucchiara is a professor of Urban Education at Temple University. Before receiving her Ph.D., she taught for several years at TPS and at a charter school in Camden. She and her husband, Brett Cucchiara, are the parents of Amelia (12) and Eliza (9).
Charles Loomis is a partner at Charles Loomis Chariss McAfee, Architects. Established in 1989 the firm has gained a reputation for high standards of innovative and environmentally sensitive design and use of materials, a focused attention to detail and cost of construction and a willingness to allow many voices to enter the design process. Charles received his undergraduate degree from Columbia College and his Masters from Yale University. He currently is a member of Christ Church Vestry, serving on the Property Committee, is a member of the Philadelphia Ethical Society Camp Linden Committee, is the Co-chair of the Center City Residents Association Zoning Committee, and is on the board of the Greater Philadelphia Passive House Association. Charles and his wife Chariss McAfee have two children, Aedhan (2008) and Zoë (2012).
Ken Young is a partner at the law firm of Dechert LLP, where his practice focuses on mergers & acquisitions, private equity and the representation of asset managers on strategic transactions including with respect to permanent capital vehicles. Ken has served on the board of the Philadelphia School since 2012 and is currently the chair of the Governance Committee of the Board and the Board Secretary. Ken and his wife Jami are TPS parents to Ethan (5th Grade) and Alex (3rdGrade). Ken is a former board member of the Coro New York Leadership Center and the Columbia Journal of Law and Social Problems, and an alum of the Coro Fellows Program.
Paul Saint-Amour was born in Michigan, grew up in California, and has lived in Philadelphia since 2008. He teaches in the English Department at the University of Pennsylvania and is the proud father of Claire Saint-Amour (TPS class of 2013) and Julia Saint-Amour (TPS class of 2016).
Mitchell Young is a Senior Director of Fraud, Risk and Compliance at Neustar. Mitchell has been with Neustar for 12 years helping companies leverage real-time identity data and analytic insights to improve operational efficiencies and manage risk and compliance. Prior to the Nuestar, Mitchell worked at Strategic Management Group where he assisted Fortune 1000 companies in the areas of Leadership Development, Project Management, and Organizational Development. Mitchell has an undergraduate degree from Penn State and an MBA from New York University. At TPS, he has two daughters, Mira (rising 7th grader) and Adrie (rising 5th grader) and has been a board member and co-chair of the Board Diversity Committee for the last five years.
