Fossil Hunting

The 7th graders visited a fossil site in Deer Lake, PA, on Tuesday as part of a geology field trip. Back in the classroom, they've been working to identify the various mollusks and bivalves so that they can catalog and label their fossils for their individual collections. The dissecting microscope (10x magnification) has been an incredible tool for facilitating this process!

Prior to visiting Deer Lake, the students visited Blue Rocks Campground (near Hawk Mountain) and explored the incredible "River of Rocks" before hiking up to Pulpit Rock Lookout (1,582 feet) to appreciate the topography of the land from a dramatic angle.
