Emily Weiss, one of our school psychologists, will be on maternity leave from the first week of December to the end of February or the very beginning of March. We have a brought on a wonderful substitute in her absence, Melissa Emmerson, MSS. Melissa will be joining the Learning Resources team weekly through November and then will be here two days per week while Emily is out.
Melissa received her MSS at the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research at Bryn Mawr College. She most recently interned at The Pathway School, where she was part of a multidisciplinary approach to working with students with learning and emotional support needs. At The Pathway School, Melissa conducted individual therapy and skill development small group work. Some of her group work was based in teaching mindfulness-based skills to children - a very exciting aspect of her training that could be wonderful to introduce to our students as well! Additionally, Melissa has been engaging in various social work and educational psychology research projects at Bryn Mawr College and Swarthmore (her undergraduate alma mater) on programs to help students get more engaged in science and to develop leadership skills in girls.
We are very excited to have Melissa be part of the learning resource team. Her skills, talents, and training will allow her to be very helpful in observing students, consulting with teachers, as well as supporting students directly in individual and group settings.
