All-School Weekly Note

Thank You: To all our TPSA Book Fair Organizers, led by our "veteran" committee chairs and members Anya Kauh, Elizabeth LaBan, Beth Lundy, Julie Motl, and Theresa Timlin. Special thanks to parent/authors Monique Curry and David Bourgenicht for their presentations to all our students from preschool through 5th grade.

Winter Break: The last day of school before Winter Break is Friday, December 19. The building will close at 3pm - there will be NO after school activities (no sports, clubs, ASEP, or MSAS). School reopens on Monday, January 5.

Winterfest at SCEE: We are excited to celebrate all things COSMOS tomorrow evening at the Schuylkill Center on Saturday, December 13, from 3 to 8pm. Read more about this fun event, which will feature star gazing with Franklin Institute astronomer Derrick Pitts. TPS is co-sponsoring this event with SCEE. Dress warmly!

December Birthday Breakfast: Children in grades 1-8 who have December birthdays are invited to a celebratory breakfast in the MPR on December 19, from 8-8:30am.

Financial Aid for 2015-16:  Applications for financial aid are now being accepted for the 2015-16 academic year.  To access the application, go to  The application deadline is January 15, 2015, for families who are new to financial aid and February 3, 2015, for families who currently receive aid.  It Is extremely important that you observe these deadlines because funds are limited, and priority will be given to those who meet the deadlines.  

Application instructions are available on the TPS website.  You must submit the following documents along with your application:  2014 tax filings, 2014 W2s, and the TPS Financial Aid Supplement (Note: The TPS Financial Aid Supplement is a new form.  Please download it here and upload the completed form to your account financial aid application account on the SSS website).  You can submit your 2013 returns for now and replace them with your 2014 returns once they become available. If you have any questions, please contact Frances Hoover, Director of Enrollment, Diversity & Community Partnerships at [email protected] or 215-545-5323 ext. 278.

Winter Concerts: The Preschool and Kindergarten Sing today was lovely. Here is the schedule for the remaining winter concerts in the Garage. 

  • Primary Unit Choir, MS Mixed Choir, & Measure for Measure, plus Junior and Sandra Dean String Ensembles: Tuesday, December 16, 9am
  • Third Grade & Junior Unit Choir, MS Mixed Choir, & Measure for Measure, plus the Sandra Dean String Ensemble: Wednesday, December 17, 9am

It is not too late to order your pictures and have them ready for the holidays. Lost Watch: An after-school club instructor left a watch in the Multipurpose Room last Wednesday evening.  It is an extremely sentimental watch. It's silver, with a black face and silver hands. If you find it, please hand it in to the front desk at Lombard Street.

Wintry Weather Information: Rule of thumb: If the School District of Philadelphia is closed because of snow, so is TPS. This rule also applies to mid-day closings and cancellations of after school activities.
