Today 7th graders transferred the embryos from the mating tanks to petri dishes and began observations. They were particularly interested in noting how many of the embryos seemed to be viable, how old they were (measured in "hours post fertilization"), and what development characteristics were evident. We had some embryos that were 45 minutes old, while others were already more than 12 hours old. My, our babies are growing up so fast! Tomorrow we hope to see beginning signs of pigment, which will help us see how our hypotheses will play out.
