The beautiful spring weather this week prompted preschool classes to spend extra time each afternoon working and playing in our garden. The children have sampled fresh mint and oregano; they’ve rubbed fingers on lemon balm to discover its citrusy scent. Ladybugs have been sighted, along with worms and larva; it’s been wonderful to see the children treat nature’s creatures with such respect. Preschoolers watch with delight as different seedlings emerge; the asparagus is now taller than the children! We have also decorated small signs for the garden to identify the many different herbs and vegetables that are growing. We are learning firsthand what it means to be urban gardeners.
