This week, our seven new middle school students are at TPS for their orientation. Their thematic unit was change. With teachers Noelle Kellich and Michael Friedman, they studied the history of TPS and the surrounding neighborhood; they also interviewed family members and neighbors about change where they live. In true TPS fashion, the study included observation (walks around the building and neighborhood), primary and secondary sources (interviews, blueprints of the school, maps, articles, and books), writing, conversation, and a culminating project. They also looked at W.E.B. DuBois and his study of our neighborhood and heard from teacher Maria De Orta (in Spanish!) about her neighborhood in Cuba.
