Welcome back everyone! It has been wonderful seeing everybody and beginning the 2014-2015 school year. It will be a year filled with constellations, planets, spaceships, planetaria, and science fiction as we pursue our new all-school theme - The Cosmos!
Weekly notes: This week, notes from teachers will be emailed directly to you; website postings are expected to begin next week. Our goal is to have all notes posted by 5 p.m. on Fridays. Each week we post this short All-School Weekly Note right here on the website. Teachers will post their own classroom notes.
New Website: We are delighted to share our new website with you. Please take some time to explore the site. The blog is now fully integrated into the site, and that's where you can find out about the latest happenings at TPS.
Google Calendar: Faculty and staff made a concerted effort to prepare as complete a calendar as possible for the school year. You'll notice that back-to-school nights, concerts, plays, trips, parent meetings, etc., are already posted.
Blog: A great way to stay in the know - especially about classroom activities is to check out the TPS blog on a regular basis. Please subscribe to receive weekly links to the most recent postings.
School Handbook: Please take the time to familiarize yourself (and your child) with the TPS Family Handbook (It is to the left of this note). We hope it answers any questions you may have; if not, feel free to call the school office, and you and your questions will be directed to the right person.
TPSA: Next week, members of our parents association will be in the South Street garden and the Lombard Street yard to greet you in the morning and afternoon. Please stop by their table, introduce yourself, learn about TPSA's activities, and ask questions. Mark your calendar for the first TPSA meeting of the year: Tuesday, September 16, 6-7:30pm. Child care will be provided. More info to come next week.
CLUBS UPDATE: Fun with Soccer Shots (for pre & K) We have just arranged for a second Soccer Shots instructor as well as an assistant, so eight additional spaces have been opened for this club, which meets on Wednesdays from 3:20 - 4:05 p.m.; Soccer Skills (1st - 3rd gr) Coach Courcy from Obvious Choice Sports has agreed to co-instruct this club, which means we are able to add six more spaces for this club, which will meet on Fridays from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.; Future Engineers (1st - 4th gr) We have created a second session of this club, which will meet right after the first on Fridays from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. Six slots remain.
Morning Drop-Off Lanes: Please do not park in the drop-off lanes (the western curbside) on 25th Street; these lanes are reserved for families who are dropping off children and not getting out of the car. A staff person will help the children out of the cars.
Community Announcement: There will be a Block Party/Wellness Festival on Saturday, September 13, from noon to 5 p.m. Sponsored by our neighbors, the New Central Baptist Church, the festival will feature lots of family-centered activities to promote wellness and healthy eating. TPS's own Brian Jordan will be leading a meditation class! Stop by - Lombard Street will be closed off from 21st to 22nd Street.
Have a great weekend. See you on Monday.
