When it Snows . . .

Wintry Weather Rule of thumb: If the School District of Philadelphia is closed because of snow or other severe weather, so is TPS. This rule also applies to mid-day closings and cancellations of after school activities. (However, if the District is closed already for professional development, we will follow the lead of other area schools.)

What to expect if we need to close school:

▪ If school is closed for the day, families will be contacted by TPS as soon as the School District makes its decision – generally by 6am. TPS will email families and post school closings on the home page of the school website. (Please note that this year we will not be texting or calling.)

If school closes mid-day, buses will be dispatched at the closing time announced by the School District. We will not put a child on a bus without contacting the family first. We will notify families by email and text

If school closes during the day or if after school activities are canceled, please let the school know if your child/children is being picked up by someone other than a usual escort. Contact Keisha Smith [email protected] (preschool and kindergarten) or Teri Lawson [email protected] (grades 1-8).

The School District bases its closing decisions on safety considerations. School is closed when snow or other severe weather events create hazardous conditions – for buses, cars, and pedestrians.
