Mystery Morning: Real Pirates of Philadelphia

This morning Family Groups – mixed-aged groups of children in kindergarten through 8th grade –took part is several theme-related and community-building activities.

An educator and a pirate (!!) from the Independence Seaport Museum brought us a fun and informative assembly program called "Real Pirates of Philadelphia," focusing on the fact and fiction about pirates!  Students solved the mystery of what pirates actually did with the gold they obtained through nefarious means!  Did they really bury it for treasure hunters to find? The pirate, Calico Jack, actually joined one of our family groups after he shared that he had a kindergarten education – and that's it!

Two other activities took place at the park – students took part in a pirate-related scavenger hunt and learned a sea shanty and dance. It was a beautiful morning to be outdoors.
