Nataly Morales '98 is a dancer with the Philadelphia-based Alchemy Dance Company, whose home season performances will take place on March 13 (8pm) and 14 (4pm and 8pm) at The Arts Bank (601 South Broad Street) at the University of the Arts. And it sounds like at least one of the pieces fits perfectly with our own recent Shakespeare Festival.
The company will be presenting the world premiere of INTERSECT on March 14. A show for all ages, it takes inspiration from the Shakespearean era and combines contemporary technique with dynamic rhythm.
"I was inspired not only by Shakespeare's sonnets,"says Artistic Director Amy Harding, "but also by his many stories with varying outcast characters. I deeply relate to this theme in my own life, and think that deep down everyone has felt this in one way or another. It's human reality, but also illusion. An intersection of the two."
Nataly has been dancing her whole life. She began her training at Wissahickon Dance Academy. After graduating from TPS, Nataly attended CAPA (Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts), where she studied ballet and modern dance. She has studied and performed with Ballet Hispanico in New York City and Donetsk Ballet of Ukraine. Nataly received her B.A. in Dance with a performance scholarship from Goucher College in Baltimore and an M.F.A. in Dance Performance and Choreography from Mills College in Oakland, CA. She is the recipient of an Outstanding Choreography Award from Mills, and her work has been commissioned by other university dance programs. Before moving back to Philadelphia, Nataly was a member of dNaga Dance Company, Mills Repertory Company, and WaxPoet(s) Dance Collective.
