Thanks to the design work of TPS art teachers Neesa Becker-Procaccino and Rick Jacobsen, the ASEP Jr Room in the Lombard Street lower level now has the "form" to support its "function."
ASEP Jr. is a space designated for the 4th and 5th graders enrolled in the After School Enrichment Program. Because the room is in between Patagonia on the west and the Music Room and Learning Resources rooms on the east, it tended to be viewed more as a pass-through space than as a defined, specifically designed room for Junior Unit students who use it regularly after school.
Neesa and Rick, working as a design team, transformed the space into a distinct area in which children can work and play. Without moving a single wall, they installed wire shelving and a bin system for much-needed storage and created, using a metal pole and fabric panel system, a defined walkway between the classrooms on either side of ASEP Jr.
