Our Primary Unit children had the thrilling opportunity this week to present a "big check" to Kirsten Rogers, Coordinator of Reach Out and Read. The check represented the money they raised during their annual classroom Martin Luther King service activity, a read-athon to benefit Reach Out and Read of Greater Philadelphia, an organization that partners with doctors to prescribe books to children and encourage families to read together.
The children told Kirsten that they read a lot and became better readers during the read-athon. And she told them that the funds they raised – $6,522.15 and counting! - will purchase books for more than 3,260 children in the Philadelphia region.
