For several weeks the beautiful and compelling photography of Daniel Traub '85 has graced the walls of Artists Alley.
This week we were fortunate to have Daniel here himself. On Thursday afternoon we hosted a reception for Daniel in Artists Alley. He not only had the opportunity to meet current faculty and staff but also reconnected with one of his former Middle School teachers, Judith Parker, and one of his classmates, Ann Rogers. We also gave Daniel a tour of TPS. Though much has changed in 2501 Lombard since 1985, Daniel did recognize the Multipurpose Room (where his class of 11 graduated) and the boys bathroom on the second floor!
On Friday, Daniel visited the Junior Unit and presented a slide show of photographs that he took in China, where he lived for nine years. The Junior Unit, deep in their study of China, had terrific questions and comments about Daniel's work and about modern China. One student said he saw the "yin and yang" in one of the photographs. Another asked Daniel if he made friends in China; "yes," replied Daniel, "Some of my best friends are in China."
Art teacher Catherine Bogart-Rome, who curates Artists Alley, will be busy this weekend getting ready for the next exhibit, which promises to be quite different from Daniel's large-format photographs. Be sure to check it out in May.
