City Love

Seventh graders participated in a workshop with musical duo City Love last Thursday in preparation for their upcoming spoken word performances.  The workshop focused on using creative expression to address social issues, and how in doing so we engage in a process of self-transformation and dialogue with others around our values and identities.

Students enjoyed a performance by City Love (with kindergarten teacher Brian Jordan on vocals and guitar) and then broke into groups of six, where they were challenged to create a song, poem, dramatic scene, or spoken word piece in response to a thought-provoking photograph.  The performances were courageous, creative, and indicative of the seventh graders' mature grasp of complex social issues.
