Alumna Speaks Out Against Islamophobia

TPS alumna Mariama Gackou '15, a freshman at the Academy at Palumbo, was one of several Muslim students who shared stories this week at an forum held in the high school's library. The meeting, organized by the students with a group of teachers, was in response to the hostile anti-Muslim sentiment prevalent in American society, particularly in the wake of violent terrorist attacks in the U.S. and abroad.

Addressing an audience of scores of peers of all backgrounds, the students emphasized the peaceful nature of Islam and spoke about both the personal and broader impacts of the inflammatory anti-Muslim rhetoric that has been central to the campaigns of several presidential candidates.
