New to City Country Camps 2017

TPS Enrichment Camps

The Philadelphia School’s original City Country Camps have more to offer this year! Let thoughts of the hot Philadelphia summer warm you on these dark days of winter. Our enrichment camps are coming back with options that will continue to delight and thrill campers. City Country Camps will once again bring young Philadelphians You Go Girls — and we’ve added a sequel: You Go Girls in the City. For those who love the wind in their face, our new Cycling in the City will be just the thing, while those who are drawn to the ancient sport of wrestling will find our Wrestling Camp ideal. Urban scientists can explore the city as History Detectives. Our much anticipated Woodworking program will be back, and much, much more!

TPS Summer Institutes

Summer Institutes engage students currently in grades 6-10 in forming educated opinions and seeing themselves as thought leaders on tough issues facing society and the world. Each institute engages participants with experts in the field, hands-on activities, travel, and community service.

Enrollment will include a full-program option, as well as a local-only option.

The Equity Institute launches this year with the kinds of questions on many of our minds: How can I be an activist in today’s world? What does racism look like today compared to 60 years ago? Participants will move between Philadelphia and our nation’s capital as they work with experts to hone the cultural competencies and historical knowledge needed for engaging productively in issues of justice. Our young participants will also be immersed in a community of artists who find both joy and an outlet through their music and performance poetry. Together they will create and perform original works that bring what they’ve learned to the broader Philadelphia community. The Equity Institute will run from June 19-June 30.

The Sustainability Institute, in its second year, will explore food from three perspectives: a global lens, a local/urban perspective, and a food-producer point of view. Participants will consider the connection between food and the City of Philadelphia before heading out for a week-long adventure into the heart of food-producing Pennsylvania to see firsthand where food comes from. They’ll contrast urban life with hands-on farming, cooking, and, of course, tasting. Future scientists, engineers, urban planners, politicians, farmers, foodies, and more will value this deep dive into the changing world of food. Join us for a delicious and fascinating adventure, and for the chance to take part in a food revolution! The Sustainability Institute will run from August 14-August 25.

Camp TPS

Camp TPS is a TPS-style day camp offered to students currently in grades 1-5. While our week-long enrichment camps invite campers to dig deeply into a particular theme, hobby, or subject, Camp TPS encourages campers to broaden their horizons and enjoy the freedom to dabble daringly. Campers will explore Philadelphia, work in the TPS garden, play in our Center City buildings, and enjoy a community that celebrates and teaches kind, creative, and courageous living.

Please note that ASEP will run a weeklong Early Summer Special Program from
June 12-June 16.
