Jasper String Quartet in Residence

On Wednesday, April 27, the highly acclaimed Jasper String Quartet (J Freivogel and Sae Chonabayashi, violins; Sam Quintal, viola; Rachel Henderson Freivogel, cello) spent the afternoon at The Philadelphia School. Winner of the prestigious CMA Cleveland Quartet Award, the Jasper String Quartet is the Professional Quartet in Residence at Temple University's Center for Gifted Young Musicians.

At a 1pm concert, the quartet performed several pieces, including a selected movement from Beethoven's Op. 18, No. 6; the Shostakovich String Quartet No. 8; and Aaron Jay Kernis’ 3rd String Quartet "River" (a piece created for the Jaspers).

Later in the afternoon the Jaspers coached our Sandra Dean String Ensemble, which has been working on Aaron Picht's arrangement of a Telemann trio sonata in D Major (arranged for solo violin and viola and strings).
