Helping Hands News

by Jordan R., Student Council co-blogger

Recently, TPS finished the PAWS canned pet food drive. Before Winter Break, we counted over 2,000 cans, and there’s still more to be counted and delivered!

On Tuesday, January 10, we will begin our next Helping Hands initiative. Student Council will be sponsoring a drive for gently used children's books, as well as new school supplies. There are public schools in Philadelphia, including the school where former Junior Unit Hilary Hamilton now works, that have asked us to donate books as they have very few in their classrooms.

  • Bins will be set up in classrooms for the gently used books. They should be books for children aged 4 to 14.
  • Separate bins will be set up in the school lobbies for the new school supplies, such as construction paper, packets of pencils, lined writing paper, and notebooks.

This drive will close toward the end of the month. The class that collects the most books will win hot chocolate as a prize (we will not be counting school supplies, but we do encourage you to bring them anyway).

So get to donating those gently used children's books and new school supplies for Philadelphia public schools. Thank you in advance.
