We are delighted to announce that Erin Gordon has accepted the position of Division Director for preschool through grade 2. Erin will join the The Philadelphia School staff on July 1, 2017. Erin has been Lower School literacy coordinator and coach at Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn for more than three years. She has been a learning specialist at Packer since 2011, and she has also taught second grade there.
Erin has a B.A. in English and studio art from Middlebury College; an M.S.Ed. in elementary education from the City College of New York; and an Ed.M. from Bank Street College of Education in advanced literacy. We expect a smooth transition, with Erin working closely next year with interim head Carlye Nelson-Major and with a strong group of Preschool, Kindergarten, and Primary Unit teachers.
We are excited that Erin is joining our community. To provide a little more insight into why, here is a paragraph from Erin’s initial letter of inquiry about the position of Division Director:
“At the core of my educational vision lies a belief that children deserve an authentic, dynamic educational experience that promotes healthy identity development as learners and citizens of their school community and beyond. I love children, am energized by learning environments, and relish the opportunity to work collaboratively with faculty to fulfill a collective vision, optimizing the educational experiences for all members of the school community.”
