Dear TPS Families,
Welcome to mid-summer as we prepare for the 2017-18 school year. TPS remains a lively place in July. The halls and classrooms have been filled with camp children’s voices and activities, and the administrative team has been busy planning for the fall.
I am delighted to be leading TPS this year as we hire and transition to a new head of school who will be in place July 1, 2018. The search is well under way, and we have many highly qualified and exciting candidates to consider for our next head of school.
Erin Gordon, our new division director for preschool-2nd grade, has arrived from Brooklyn; Yves Kabore is back as our 3rd-5th grade division director; and long-time TPS middle school teacher Emily Marston is in her new role as middle school division director. Between the administrative and program teams we have over 200 years of of school experience – that’s a deep well to pull from! In addition, the majority of us have worked together for over 10 years, so we are really a "well-aged" team! Please save the date – August 17, 5:30-7:00pm – for an informal "Meet the Division Directors" in the Garage; an invitation will be sent out later this month.
We have lots of exciting work to accomplish this summer. We are currently prioritizing the goals of our new strategic plan and the recommendations from our recent reaccreditation process. In addition, we are preparing to roll out the coaching standards that we and the faculty developed last year to ensure that our teachers remain among the strongest instructional leaders in the region.
Here is a link to a Back-to-School Checklist (it is easily accessible from the home page of the school website) to help you keep up with summer communications about health records and registration for after school activities. If you have any questions about this material, please call the school office.
PLEASE NOTE: The password to the Parent Portal (which those of you new to TPS will become well acquainted with this fall!) of the school website has been changed. [This version of the letter does not include the password; if you missed the original email, contact school to find out the new password.]
Our collective work will help make The Philadelphia School an even more robust, focused, and equitable school. Here’s to being bold, strong, and engaged throughout the year!
