Matthew Colaizzo '97 is one of three artists being featured in a show at the Gross McCleaf Gallery from September 6 to 29.
A printmaker, Matt creates works inspired by the landscape, specifically, the landscape of the Scranton / Wilkes-Barre valley of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Explains Matt, "The legacy left behind by the mining companies that once ruled The Valley can be seen everywhere and is both evidence of the progress of man and the power of nature to restore itself. My studio practice is an investigation of the mood, air, atmosphere, aura, light, and spirit of the landscape through woodblock printing. This medium enables me to explore different color and printing schemes relating to ambience of a vista, which is ever changing."
There is an opening reception at the gallery, located at 127 S. 16th Street, on Friday, September 8, 5-7pm.
