Cherokee Conversation

This afternoon, 8th graders “met” Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker via Skype. Chief Baker currently serves as the 17th elected chief of the Cherokee Nation, the largest Indian tribe in the United States. The conversation set the stage for the 8th grade’s visit next week to the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. They will tour the exhibition Trail of Tears: A Story of Cherokee Removal. Afterwards they will share their reflections with Chief Baker. (Photo below by Marco Velis)
