The preschool hosted special guests last week. Lindsey Bloom and Amy Danford, two museum educators from the Philadelphia Museum of Art, visited both preschool classrooms. Knowing that we’ve been exploring “ourselves and our families,” Lindsey and Amy led conversations around the special people in our lives – friends, pets, grown-ups, etc. – and talked about what makes each of our families unique. They shared the story A Sick Day for Amos McGee, as well as posters of Picasso’s 3 Musicians, Toulouse-Lautrec’s Follette, and Chagall’s Half-Past Three (The Poet). After our sharing, each child was invited to create mixed-media portraits of their own special people.
We preschool teachers are delighted with our new PMA partnership; the museum educators are excited about finding connections between their work at the museum and the project studies in our classrooms. This winter we will visit the museum with the children.
