The 8th grade spent last Tuesday and Wednesday in Washington, DC. In addition to touring the Capitol building, they had meetings with Senator Bob Casey, Congressman Dwight Evans, and Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy.
At the National Portrait Galley, students saw the the exhibit UnSeen and the recently unveiled Obama portraits. At the Newseum they visited the Berlin Wall exhibit and spent time in the gallery featuring Pulitzer Prize–winning photographs.
In preparation for creating their own monuments to the Little Rock Nine, the eighth graders visited the Lincoln Memorial, the MLK, Jr. Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans War Memorial, the FDR Memorial, and the Korean War Memorial.
