Intensives

The Play's the Thing

Did you notice the great props featured in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Twelfth Night?

They were made by the students in The Play's The Thing, one of this winter’s middle school intensives. On Thursday, the students had a special tour of the Arden Theatre, and they met with Courtney Riggar, the Arden’s production manager. Students saw the green room, the sound booth, and set design spaces, and they learned about all of the design element – set, lights, and sound – that go into each and every production.

GRASP Lab Visit

Last week the 7th grade went to see demonstrations at the GRASP Lab (general robotics, automation, sensing, and perception), housed within the University of Pennsylvania's School of Engineering and Applied Science. Presentations were given by master's and doctoral students, including Elizabeth Hunter (Jake's wife), who is pursuing a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering.

Announcing Intensives!

We are so excited to launch a new component of the middle school program, Intensives. These electives are an opportunity for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in mixed-age groups to deeply explore an area of interest they might otherwise have limited or no exposure to. From ancient survival skills to computer coding to introduction to sculpture, these 10-week courses will meet twice each week for an hour at a time.

Here are this fall's Middle School Intensives.
