Fed Up on a Sunday Afternoon

Yesterday's screening of the film Fed Up was a lovely event. Co-sponsored by TPS and the New Central Baptist Church, the screening took place at the church and was attended by about 50 people, all interested in learning about the ill-health outcomes of dietary sugar and in forging a partnership between our two communities.

The event featured healthy movie-watching snacks, provided by our hosts. Dominique, a TPS 7th grader, introduced the film, citing the research she had just concluded on sugar as a "seed of change." After the screening, a discussion was guided by a dietician from the The Food Trust, a Philadelphia organization that has been working for 20 years to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, nutritious food and information to make healthy decisions.

We were happy to be a part of an initiative that is dealing with an issue about which we care so deeply. In addition, we are looking forward to getting better acquainted with a TPS “neighbor” whose building at 21st and Lombard is one many of us have passed by almost daily.

We'd like to thank Marsha Hurst for spearheading this effort on behalf of the church, as well as Pastor Reaves and the rest of the New Central Baptist congregation for hosting the event. Thank you to the TPS community members who attended the screening.
