A Message From the Head of School
It is my pleasure to welcome you to The Philadelphia School. I invite you to explore our website to learn about our 50-year history and the amazing things that happen at our school every day. You can learn a lot from these pages, but the best way to experience TPS is to visit us and see the magic in action.
Come visit our classrooms. Experience the way that teachers build relationships with our students and prepare them for the challenges ahead. Get a first hand look at how TPS students (even our preschoolers) are partners in their learning journey and are advocates, not only for themselves, but for others.
Come experience our students exploring our great city. Philadelphia is more than our location. It is an extension of our classrooms, a topic of study, and an inspiration for civic engagement.
Come see our students exploring the great outdoors. Every student in preschool through eighth grade spends a day a week in our outdoor classroom at parks and locations throughout Philadelphia. This intimate and personal connection to nature encourages our students to become environmental stewards and creates connections to concepts they learn in the classroom.
Our school was founded by a group of parents who wanted to nurture the natural curiosity and intellect of children. They set out to create a professionally run school that set high academic standards, celebrates joyful learning, respects and educates the whole child, and fosters creativity and innovation. Generations later, we are proud to continue that legacy, embracing the challenges and joys of becoming learners for life.
Welcome to TPS,
Lisa Sun
