First, a big thanks to all of you who attended Back-to-School Night on Tuesday. We so appreciated your presence and support! If you didn’t pick up a green handout or were unable to attend the event, ask your child to collect one from us at school next week. This handout presents several important tools that we’ll use in JU-A this year and explains both the student’s and parent’s roles for each one.
By now you’ve received an email with links to our fall conference sign-up pages. You’ll be meeting with your child’s “advisor.” The advisor is the teacher who will be your point person for communicating about your child through email, as well as the teacher who you’ll meet with at our bi-annual conferences. Here are the advisor assignments and the conference sign-up information again:
Doodle for parents of Emily’s advisees (Niamh, Charlotte, Bryce, Simone, Alex, Avery, Pablo, Sadie, MaKayla, Ethan, Mira, Stephen): http://doodle.com/poll/r2inmmebs9x8nsa4
Doodle for parents of Jenson’s 4th grade advisees (Laura, Devin, Peri, Gavi, Benji): http://doodle.com/poll/fbzecxp52cxbmmmd
Doodle for parents of Jenson’s 5th grade advisees (Brian, Sebastian, Mollie, Abigail, Lorenzo, and Leo): http://doodle.com/poll/qwbsfmff4v9ztcfw
Please sign up as soon as possible, as slots are filling quickly! (Note: If, when you look at the Doodle poll, none of the remaining time slots work for your schedule, please email your child’s advisor to arrange an alternative time.)
In the JU-A classroom this week, our Theme study really gathered steam! We began researching important innovations from ancient Greece to add to our timeline, discussed the question, “What is a myth?” and we dove into our mythology text, D’Aulaires’ Book of Greek Myths. We also launched our year-long exploration of heroes. Over the weekend, your child will be sharing the details of the project with you and will also need your help identifying potential candidates for his or her first “hero paragraph,” which will be written about a member of your family (from any generation) who is heroic in some way. Thanks in advance for your support!
In closing, remember that school is closed on Monday, October 12. We’ll see the JUA-ers back at school next Tuesday.
Enjoy the long weekend!
Emily and Jenson
