Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year!
Our first three days of school have been busy as we settle back in to life at school. Ask your child to tell you about some of the routines and traditions we've already introduced and practiced:
- morning meeting
- snack and lunch groups
- numbering off
- Friday Finale
A highlight of the week was our Thursday morning visit to the Schuylkill Center. Luckily, the rain held off for most of our visit, which allowed us to hike comfortably on the Butterfly Meadow Loop and Ravine Trail. Students worked together and tested out strategies during a game of "All-Hit Earth Ball," and our currently class record is 31 hits before the ball touched the ground! We were back at school by lunch time and finished the day in the classroom. This morning time at the Center was the perfect reintroduction to the space and the special rules and routines that guide our time there. Now we will be able to hit the ground running next Thursday with our first natural science rotations of the school year!
This afternoon, your child will be bringing home their first letter to you, housed inside of a red "Friday folder." Please read his or her letter (and respond, if you like!), then sign the form on the back of the folder to indicate that it was shared with you. Typically, Friday folders will be bursting with completed work to be kept at home, as well as the weekly note from your child; this week, it's just the letter. Your child should bring the folder back to school on Monday or, if he or she will be out of school for Rosh Hashanah, on Tuesday.
Another assignment due on Monday (or, again, Tuesday if your child will be out for the holiday) is the "paper bag project." Please take a look at this assignment (in your child's homework binder) over the weekend and help ensure that it is returned to school on Monday. These projects will help us get to know one another better and will be used to help us create our morning meeting sharing routine for the year. Thanks for your support!
We will be reaching out by phone over the next couple of weeks to connect with each of you, introduce ourselves, and hear about your hopes for your child this year. Should you need to get in touch with us, our email addresses are as follows:
Here's to a wonderful year of working together to support your lovely and lively children!
