Dear JU-A Families,
The JU-A students kicked it into high gear this week, and preparations for February’s open house are officially underway. Below is a sampling of what your kids worked on during our four-day week. In each of these different projects, students are endeavoring to share their knowledge of Greek mythology, its symbolism, and significance with members of the TPS community.
- participating in prewriting activities for their “Mythmakers” stories, companion pieces to their autumn science investigations at Awbury Arboretum
- revising and editing their contributions for a class guide to Greek mythology
- identifying some bizarre (and sometimes hilarious) connections between their chosen mythological characters
- developing a a deepened understanding of their learning styles, preferences, and interests, in order to design an independent project about their character
Just a reminder that students are writing their hero paragraphs at home this month. Their final drafts are due next Friday, 1/29! Please check in with your child about his or her progress over the weekend to help ensure that he or she is on-track to meet this deadline.
In closing, a few words from Julia:
I’ve enjoyed my first few weeks here at TPS! I've been consistently impressed by your children's enthusiasm for learning, their capacity for self-reflection, and the creative ideas they've generated for their Greek-themed projects. For the rest of this spring, I will be partnering with Jenson on advising. If your child is one of our advisees, please don't hesitate to reach out to us via email with any questions or concerns you have about your child. I look forward to seeing you all at our learning celebration on February 17!
Be safe this weekend, and stay warm!
Emily, Jenson, and Julia
