JU-B Weekly Note

Dear JU-B Families,

We’re sorry to be getting this note to you late - feel free to take that as evidence that it has been a very busy week in JU-B!

In our study of Greek Mythology, we’ve continued working on activating our schema and using that to help us make strong predictions. Students also practiced paragraph structure as they had the opportunities to outline and write a variety of compare and contrast paragraphs between our myths.

When we weren’t working on D’Aulaires, students were meeting in their Jerry Spinelli book groups. In the *Loser *group students are beginning to map Zinkoff onto the Hero’s cycle. In Maniac Magee, students have been working on making text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world connections as they link our story to Knots in my Yo-Yo String, their own experiences, and our mystery activity from earlier on in this project.

We were out of the classroom lots this week with our trips to Awbury Arboretum. This week marked our last time heading to our outdoor classroom until spring break.

Next week, we’re looking forward to the rock band performance, baking brownies, and participating in our Thanksgiving Feast tradition. If you’re able, please be sure to send your child to school with a big bowl and mixing spoon on Monday for our baking!

Have a great weekend and a lovely holiday!

Sincerely,

Hilary and Dan
