JU-C Weekly Note

Dear Families,

Yesterday was the perfect day to end the week. We were in Family Circles at Shelly Ridge for music, games, and art. It was beautiful, and we loved hanging out together in mixed age groups.

We talked this week about the history of China and Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi, whose dynasty was very short, but who united China in many ways (and for whom China is named). His name came up in both Theme class and Mandarin class this week!

Our current events conversation a few weeks ago brought up the war in Syria, so on Wednesday we watched a short animated video about the state of things in Syria. https://youtu.be/K5H5w3_QTG0

We’re always impressed with the careful thinking our students do. Their thoughts about immigration, terrorism, the role of the US in other countries, and the issues that are playing out in our current presidential race are just as probing and concerned as those of adults, and as with adults, reflect the complexity of the situations. Ask your child what they were wondering about this week during that conversation.

We began Word Study this week with spelling homework. Because this week and next week are short weeks, students had spelling homework this week and will have another assignment next week before the test next Friday. Typically, though, students will get words and an assignment on Monday, with the assignment due Wednesday and the test on Friday.

We hope you have a fabulous long weekend! Enjoy the fall weather!

Sincerely,

Laura and David
