JU-C Weekly Note

Dear Families,

We hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable break. We enjoyed all of the kindnesses — cards, food, gift cards, etc. — you gave us. Thank you!

We jumped back into the school routine on Monday, and it has felt like a normal, full week. We had the usual activities — spelling, math, SSR, read-aloud. We officially started our mythology project. Students did research on their character, and next week they will begin writing a biography of their character. Ask your child about his/her character and about the timeline/calendar for the project.

At Agora Time, students selected a change they’d like to address at TPS — a return to birthday snacks, a return to snacks such as chips and crackers, and a return to having mixed lunch in the Junior Unit. On Wednesday, students heard from administrators and teachers about why the changes were made to begin with. Next week, students will think about ways they can try to make change happen. Then students will actually take action. It’s exciting to move from looking at democracy at work — what can happen inside and outside the system to create change — to actually working on change.

Yesterday we began our work on a musical with our HMS partners. The musical is called “The Return of Halley’s Comet.” Several teachers from HMS are going to be working on songs and movements with us on Mondays, while we’ll head to HMS on Thursdays to work with our partners there. We are proud of our students, who are increasingly comfortable working with their partners. And it was wonderful to see how excited the HMS students are to be part of the production. For your planning, the performance of the musical at HMS for family and friends is on March 16 at 6 p.m. (There’s also a dress rehearsal at HMS on March 3 at 10:30 and a performance on March 10 at 10:30.)
