Yesterday was a beautiful day for all of us at Awbury Arboretum. Students were able to come up with new research questions for their Mythbusters project and will be collecting data starting next week. In order to make sure we finish our data collection by Thanksgiving, as planned, for the next two weeks we will be visiting Awbury on Mondays and Thursdays. On Mondays we will be there only in the morning, returning for lunch around 12:30, and on Thursdays we will follow our regular fall Thursday schedule. Thank you for your patience and flexibility.
With our three days of school this week, we read about Aphrodite and Ares, continued our read aloud of Three Times Lucky, started thinking about our November hero paragraph, and continued our book groups. Ask your child about any of these!
We had a fabulous extended morning meeting on Wednesday this week. The conversation began about results from Election Day. Because of the judge elections, the topic turned to what judges do, eventually leading to a brief look at whether justice applied equally to everyone and whether our system of punishment works in our society. It was a fascinating conversation, and one we hope to return to soon. (Your children are hopeful people, but are at an age where they recognize that some things in our society don’t seem fair.)
Finally, we had meetings today in Family Circles, as many groups did activities related to our all-school theme of “What Is a Mystery?” Be sure to find out what activity your child’s group did.
It was delightful to see you at conferences this week. We look forward to continuing our partnership in teaching your children!
Have a lovely weekend!
