Good afternoon, parents!
We hope that you and your families are looking forward to the long weekend – we know the students are. It was a funky four-day week here, with half our time spent in our country classrooms. At The Schuylkill Center on Tuesday we used the maps we’ve created of the Pine Plantation to play Capture the Flag in teams, while in our science rotation we recorded the various characteristics of leaves and trees in order to identify and classify them back in the classroom.
In cultural studies, we explored the Spanish Reconquista and its effects on European migration and exploration, while in language arts we continued our grammar exploration by adding identification of subjects and direct objects to our list of grammar skills. We’ll be starting our first novel soon – be on the lookout!
Finally, a couple reminders. First, make sure that you have signed up for a Fall Conference time with your child’s advisor. You may also schedule conferences with your child’s art, music, Spanish, and PE teachers if you’d like – those links are all the way at the bottom of the list. Also, be sure to check in with your child this weekend about how his/her Fall Intensive is going.
Finally, we’d like to pass along this link http://www.mightywriters.org/ to the organization Mighty Writers, which offers free creative writing workshops for kids and teens throughout the city.
We hope you have a safe and happy long weekend! See you on Tuesday.
Until next week,
David, Steve, Melanie, and Jake
