7th Grade Friday Note

Hello, Parents!

Welcome to the 7th Grade Friday Note! We hope that you and your children have had a smooth and successful return to school this year. This weekly note is one of the primary ways that we teachers will communicate the weekly goings-on of the seventh grade with you and give you alerts about things that are coming up. Please be sure to check the Class Notes http://www.tpschool.org/class-notes-home section of the TPS website each Friday afternoon for our Friday note.

Today your child brought home with them a packet of permission slips for Tuesday trips we have coming up in October. Please read, sign, and have your child return them to their advisor as soon as possible. For each of these trips, as well as for our regular Tuesdays to the Schuylkill Center, your children should come equipped with long sleeves and pants (to keep out ticks), sturdy and comfortable walking shoes, a raincoat if the forecast calls, and full lunches and water bottles.

While on the topic of proper equipment, we reiterate Akemi’s message to make sure that your children wear sneakers any day that they have PE class! If they are not wearing sneakers, they will not be allowed to participate in PE for the day.

Starting next Friday, you can expect your child to bring home a Checkout Form that lists any missing or late work that they have for the week. On it, the student must explain why the work is missing/late and describe what support they need from teachers or parents to get caught up. You and they must sign this form each weekend to return, along with any missing work, to advisors the following Monday. This form is another valuable method of communication between parents, students, and teachers. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns pertaining to the week’s work, please write to us on the back of the Checkout Form.

For those families who will be keeping their children home for Rosh Hashana and/or Yom Kippur, please be sure to email your child’s advisor to let us know. For those who have already done so, thank you!

Finally, a message from the 8th grade team about some upcoming high school events for 7th graders who are interested. These are optional for 7th graders!

High School Night will be on Monday, September 21 at 7:15 pm in the TPS gymnasium; we are expecting twenty independent and public schools to be present. This is an evening for both you and your child/ren to learn more about the admission process in general and about these schools in particular.

If you are interested in doing a little research on the public school options for high schools in Philadelphia, the link to this year’s high school directory is as follows: www.phila.k12.pa.us/students and click on the directory of high schools.

The public school fair will be held at The Philadelphia Convention Center at 1101 Arch Street on Friday, October 16th from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Saturday, October 17th from 9:00 am to 3 pm. Representative from School District high schools will be available to provide information about high school options and answer questions.

Thank you for your time and attention! We are excited to work and learn with you and your children over the course of the upcoming year.

David, Virginia, and Steve
