8th Grade Weekly Note

Dear Eighth Grade Parents,

We were delighted to see so many of you at Back-To-School Night on Wednesday. We hope that the overview of the year was helpful and that you were able to get the answers that you needed. For those of you who were unable to attend, here is the presentation that served as the outline for our presentations.

On Monday we had lunch with the kindergarten classes so that we could meet the youngest members of our Family Groups. This morning we met in Family Circles for the first time and enjoyed getting to know the other members of our Family Groups and this larger community of Family Circles. Our next event is going to Shelly Ridge, our former country classroom, in Family Circles on Thursday, October 6.

This week students met with admission representatives from The Shipley School and Roman Catholic High School and learned more about their distinctive programs. Next week we will welcome Abington Friends on Monday and Friends’ Central on Wednesday. Parents are cordially invited; come join us for lunch in Emily’s and Ashley’s area of the Middle School.

A reminder that the Philadelphia High School Fair is Friday, October 14, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, October 15, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, Hall G. Enter on the corner of Broad and Race Streets.

The public school application form is now available on the School District website. Please remember to forward us a copy of the completed form so we are aware of the schools to which we must send the student data forms. For private school applications, please send us the transfer forms and the signed but blank recommendation forms. Ethan, Ashley, and Emily will fill out those recommendations; the schools prefer recommendations from current teachers.

You should have received a link yesterday to teachers’ doodle sign-up forms for parent conferences on November 3 and 4. (Ashley sent out a corrected link to her advisees' families last night.) We look forward to having conversations focused on students’ academic and social progress.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Emily, Ashley, Ethan, and Wendy
