8th Grade Weekly Note

Dear Eighth Grade Parents,

Thank you for being such thoughtful correspondents this month in your child’s SSR journal! Your tour of duty ends with this weekend’s missive. You’ll be the recipients of SSR letters once again in February and can get caught up on the growth your child has seen as a reader.

We look forward to seeing you at conferences soon. If there are any last minute changes in your schedule, please email your child’s advisor directly.

Today we enjoyed time in our family groups and circles exploring the mysteries of pirates! The morning consisted of an assembly presented by the Independence Seaport Museum on Pirates of Philadelphia, facts and myths. In addition, each circle also had time at Schuylkill River Park learning pirate songs and dances and then were challenged with a treasure map to find special spots in the park. It was a wonderful morning to be outside.

We need help with the Thanksgiving Feast preparations which are soon upon us. On Monday, November 23 we spend the day making lasagnas (68 this year) and need helpers to cook and chop, as well as bakers. If you can join us for the chopping and layering on Monday, November 23, there are two shifts: from 8:30 to 10:30 and from 10:30 to 12:30. If you can only come for a portion of those times, that would be terrific. In addition, we need large pots in which to prepare the tomato sauce and large mixing bowls to make the ricotta filling. We will have a sign-up list here at school for the various tools needed, so indicate to your child that you are willing to donate a pot or bowl for the day.

We also need bakers for these lasagnas who are willing to take anywhere from two to four lasagnas home on Monday (pick up from 2:30 to 6:00 pm) and return the cooked product by 11:30 on Tuesday, November 24. Email Emily if you are willing to help in any way ([email protected]).

Please let us know if your child will not be here for the feast on Tuesday, November 24. We sit in family groups, and we’ll want to make sure that the younger students are redistributed in the event of the absence of their family group leader.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Emily, Ethan, Ashley, and Wendy
