Dear Parents of the Class of 2018,

The annual eighth grade Spanish trip is a true highlight of the year. This year we are going to a new destination – never before has a TPS eighth grade gone to Ecuador!

The trip, from March 17 to 23, not only will be an incredible learning experience but will also be an opportunity for the class to leave school and home and connect socially and intellectually with each other and with new friends. Our students will use their Spanish skills as they visit cultural sites and beautiful natural regions.

The trip operators are Chill Expeditions, founded and run by former teachers who understand that leading a group successfully requires a balance of fun, challenge, reflection, and hands-on experiences. Chill Expeditions coordinated our trip to Cuba last year, and we were very pleased with our relationship with them.

I was a chaperone on the trip last year, and will be the administrative point person for the trip this year. Here is the current itinerary for the Ecuador trip.

The cost of the trip (airfare and land costs), not including spending money for souvenirs, is $2,400.

What you need to do:

  1. Apply now for a passport for your child. If your child already has a passport, it cannot expire within 6 months of the travel date.
Click here for more information about passports.

  2. Register for the trip by September 30, 2017, by clicking on the the following Activework link: https://campscui.active.com/orgs/ThePhiladelphiaSchool . There are two payment options: at the time of registration, you can pay in full or pay a 10% deposit of $240 and make five monthly payments of $432 by October 31, November 30, December 31, January 31, and February 28.

  3. There are several forms that also need to be filled out and returned to school no later than September 30.

If you have any questions about the trip, please go to the TPS page on the Chill Expeditions website or contact Karen Moore at kmoore@tpschool.org or at 215-545-5323, ext 285.

Looking forward to seeing you all in the fall,
